Deep Dish Meatball Pizza (Print Format)

Cheddar, Monterey Jack, flavorful meatballs, and golden crust combine for a satisfying twist on pizza night.

# Ingredients:

→ For the Meatballs

01 - ⅓ cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
02 - 2 tablespoons milk
03 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
04 - ½ medium white onion, finely diced
05 - 8 ounces ground beef
06 - 8 ounces ground pork
07 - 1 large egg
08 - 2 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley, minced
09 - 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
10 - ½ teaspoon salt
11 - ½ teaspoon black pepper
12 - ½ teaspoon dried oregano
13 - ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

→ For the Deep Dish Pizza

14 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
15 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
16 - ½ large yellow onion, diced
17 - 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced (optional)
18 - 1 teaspoon minced garlic
19 - 1½ teaspoons Italian seasonings
20 - ½ teaspoon kosher salt
21 - 16 ounces pizza dough
22 - ½ cup pizza sauce
23 - 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
24 - 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
02 - Combine bread crumbs and milk in a large bowl and let soak for 5 minutes.
03 - Heat olive oil in a medium frying pan over medium-high heat. Add diced white onion and sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened. Transfer onions to the bowl with bread crumbs.
04 - Add ground beef, ground pork, egg, parsley, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes to the bowl. Mix until just combined, taking care not to overmix.
05 - Divide mixture into 24 equal pieces. Place meatballs ½ inch apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until fully cooked.
06 - Increase oven temperature to 450°F.
07 - Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced yellow onion and optional jalapeño. Sauté for 6-7 minutes, or until softened. Add garlic, Italian seasonings, and salt. Sauté for 1 additional minute.
08 - Roll pizza dough into an 11-inch circle and press it into the bottom and 1 inch up the sides of a greased 9-inch springform pan.
09 - Spread pizza sauce on top of the dough. Combine cooked meatballs, sautéed onion mixture, Monterey Jack cheese, and sharp cheddar cheese in a bowl. Transfer mixture into the springform pan on top of the pizza sauce.
10 - Bake at 450°F for 20 minutes. Tent the top of the pizza with foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before removing the springform pan and slicing.
