Peel the yams, rinse them well, and slice into 1/2-inch thick pieces.

Dump all the listed ingredients into a pot and place it on medium heat.

Mix everything until the yams are totally coated in the sugar and butter sauce.

Turn the heat up to boil, then lower it and cover the pot. Cook gently for 50 minutes, stirring now and then.
