01 -
Fill a 2-3 quart heavy-bottomed saucepan slightly over halfway with vegetable oil, enough to fully submerge the dough balls. Set aside.
02 -
In a small heat-safe bowl, mix together granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
03 -
Open the can of biscuits and flatten each piece of dough using your fingers or a rolling pin. If using a rolling pin, lightly flour your work surface.
04 -
Place 1 tablespoon of apple pie filling in the center of each dough circle. Top it with a halved caramel piece.
05 -
Pinch the edges of the dough together to seal, ensuring no gaps. Roll the sealed edges under to form a ball.
06 -
Heat the oil on medium until it is hot enough that a small piece of dough dropped in bubbles immediately.
07 -
Carefully lower the dough balls into the hot oil using a slotted metal spoon. Fry no more than 2 dough balls at a time, turning them with the spoon to cook evenly. Remove once all sides are golden brown.
08 -
Transfer the fried dough balls to the cinnamon sugar bowl. Roll them to fully coat in the mixture.
09 -
Serve immediately. Optionally, drizzle with caramel sundae topping for added flavor.
