01 -
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
02 -
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for approximately 6–8 minutes, breaking the beef into small crumbles, until browned and onions are soft. Drain excess grease if necessary.
03 -
Stir in garlic, Italian seasoning, oregano, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and optional crushed red pepper. Cook for 30 seconds to bloom the flavors.
04 -
Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet. Stir to combine and simmer for approximately 5 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning, ensuring the sauce remains loose for baking.
05 -
Spread approximately 1 cup of meat sauce across the bottom of the baking dish. Arrange half of the ravioli over the sauce. Top with half of the remaining beef sauce, 1 cup mozzarella, and half of the Parmesan. Add spoonfuls of ricotta if using.
06 -
Add the remaining ravioli, followed by the rest of the meat sauce. Finish with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Ensure most ravioli are covered with sauce to prevent drying during baking.
07 -
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the ravioli is tender, the sauce is bubbly, and the cheese is melted and golden.
08 -
Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for approximately 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
