Cut the smoked sausage into small pieces. Chop the onion and green bell pepper.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the smoked sausage, onion, and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until the sausage is browned and the vegetables are softened.

Stir in minced garlic, then season with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and onion powder.

Add the rinsed rice and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover with a lid, and let it cook for about 20 minutes.

Halfway through the rice cooking time, add the frozen broccoli florets to the skillet. Continue cooking until the rice is tender.

Mix in about a cup of shredded Colby Jack cheese. Top with additional cheese and cover with a lid to let it melt. Optionally, place the skillet under the broiler for a few minutes.
