Cherry Cobbler Golden Topping (Print Format)

Sweet cherries and a buttery topping create a warm dessert that's simple to prepare for any occasion.

# Ingredients:

→ Homemade Cherry Filling

01 - 4 cups pitted cherries (fresh or frozen)
02 - 1/2 cup granulated sugar (use 2/3 cup for sour cherries)
03 - 2 tablespoons cornstarch
04 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
05 - 1 can cherry pie filling

→ Cobbler Batter

06 - 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
07 - 1 cup all-purpose flour
08 - 2 teaspoons baking powder
09 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
10 - 1/2 cup granulated sugar
11 - 1 cup milk
12 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

# Steps:

01 - In a saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, for 5–10 minutes until the cherries release their juices and the filling thickens. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
02 - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
03 - Place butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and place it in the oven for a few minutes until melted.
04 - In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add milk and vanilla extract, and whisk until smooth.
05 - Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter without stirring. Spoon the cherry filling evenly over the batter.
06 - Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown, the edges are set, and the cherry filling is bubbling.
07 - Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

# Tips:

01 - For a quick version, use 1 can of cherry pie filling instead of making the filling from scratch.
02 - For sour cherries, use 2/3 cup sugar in the filling. For sweeter cherries, 1/2 cup sugar is recommended.
03 - If using frozen cherries, there is no need to thaw them beforehand; cook them directly with sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Add 1 additional tablespoon of cornstarch if needed.
