01 -
Preheat your oven to 230°C and spray a 23x23cm glass or ceramic baking dish with cooking spray that has flour in it - this helps prevent sticking.
02 -
In a medium bowl, whisk together your flour, sugar, and baking powder until everything's nicely combined and there are no lumps.
03 -
Pour the buttermilk into your dry ingredients and stir until you get a thick, sticky batter. If it looks too dry, add a bit more buttermilk little by little.
04 -
Gently fold in your diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese, making sure they're spread throughout the batter evenly.
05 -
Melt your butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then pour it into your prepared baking dish, making sure it coats the bottom completely.
06 -
Spread your sticky dough evenly over the melted butter in the dish. Spray your hands with cooking spray first - it makes handling the dough so much easier.
07 -
Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares. This makes it super easy to portion out the biscuits once they're baked.
08 -
Put the dish in the middle of your oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, turning it halfway through for even browning. If the top gets too brown, just cover with foil.
09 -
Your biscuits are done when they're golden on top and spring back when you gently press them. A toothpick in the center should come out clean. Cut along your scored lines and serve warm.
