Ham Cheese Butter Biscuits (Print Format)

Tender, buttery biscuits packed with ham and cheddar cheese - baked in one dish for easy serving.

# Ingredients:

→ Dry ingredients

01 - 310g all-purpose flour
02 - 13g granulated sugar
03 - 13g aluminum-free baking powder

→ Wet ingredients

04 - 415ml buttermilk, plus extra if needed

→ Mix-ins

05 - 250g ham, diced small
06 - 170g sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

→ For topping

07 - 115g salted butter

# Steps:

01 - Preheat your oven to 230°C and spray a 23x23cm glass or ceramic baking dish with cooking spray that has flour in it - this helps prevent sticking.
02 - In a medium bowl, whisk together your flour, sugar, and baking powder until everything's nicely combined and there are no lumps.
03 - Pour the buttermilk into your dry ingredients and stir until you get a thick, sticky batter. If it looks too dry, add a bit more buttermilk little by little.
04 - Gently fold in your diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese, making sure they're spread throughout the batter evenly.
05 - Melt your butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then pour it into your prepared baking dish, making sure it coats the bottom completely.
06 - Spread your sticky dough evenly over the melted butter in the dish. Spray your hands with cooking spray first - it makes handling the dough so much easier.
07 - Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares. This makes it super easy to portion out the biscuits once they're baked.
08 - Put the dish in the middle of your oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, turning it halfway through for even browning. If the top gets too brown, just cover with foil.
09 - Your biscuits are done when they're golden on top and spring back when you gently press them. A toothpick in the center should come out clean. Cut along your scored lines and serve warm.

# Tips:

01 - Handle the sticky dough gently and don't overmix - this keeps your biscuits nice and tender.
02 - These biscuits are best served warm, straight from the oven when the cheese is still melty.
03 - You can prep the dry ingredients ahead of time and store them in an airtight container.
04 - Try different cheese combinations like sharp cheddar mixed with a bit of gruyere for extra flavor.
