Maple Bacon Smash Burger (Print Format)

Smash burger with crispy edges, caramelized onion, maple bacon and provolone on toasted rolls.

# Ingredients:

→ Burger

01 - 1.5 lbs ground beef
02 - 1/2 cup caramelized onions
03 - Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder
04 - Provolone cheese
05 - Maple bacon slices
06 - Yellow mustard
07 - 4 hard rolls
08 - 1 tablespoon butter

→ Bacon and Onions

09 - 1 lb bacon
10 - 2 to 3 medium yellow onions
11 - 1/3 cup Wisconsin maple syrup
12 - Black pepper
13 - Chili powder

# Steps:

01 - Combine ground beef, caramelized onions, and seasonings. Do not overmix. Divide mixture into 4 balls and let rest for 15 minutes.
02 - Heat a griddle, place meat balls, and press flat with a spatula. Cook until edges are crispy, flipping twice. Brush tops with yellow mustard before the final flip and finish cooking.
03 - Top patties with cheese, bacon, and caramelized onions. When cheese is melted, serve burgers on buttered, griddled buns with a touch of spicy mustard.
04 - Arrange bacon on a wire rack over a baking sheet. Place in a cold oven and set to 350°F. Combine 3 tablespoons maple syrup, chili powder, and black pepper in a bowl. Baste bacon with the maple syrup mixture while baking. Cool when fully cooked.
05 - Dice yellow onions finely and cook in a skillet with butter over low heat. Add a splash of maple syrup and a sprinkle of black pepper. Cook until caramelized.

# Tips:

01 - Allow burger mixture to rest for 15 minutes to enhance flavor and texture.
02 - Cooking bacon in a cold oven reduces splatter and ensures even cooking.
03 - Caramelizing onions slowly over low heat brings out their natural sweetness.
