Onion topped pork chops (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Pork Chops Base

01 - 4 pork chops with bones
02 - Pepper and salt as needed
03 - 1 tbsp of olive oil

→ Onion Blend

04 - 2 onions (medium-sized), sliced thin
05 - 1 cup of sour cream
06 - 1 bottle (10.5 oz) of cream of mushroom soup
07 - 1 tsp of onion powder
08 - 1 tsp of garlic powder
09 - 1/2 tsp of thyme, maybe skip

→ Cheesy Crunch Topping

10 - 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar)
11 - 1 cup of crispy French fried onions

# Instructions:

01 - Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and let it heat up while you prep.
02 - Sprinkle both sides of the pork chops with salt and pepper until they're coated.
03 - Heat olive oil in a big pan over medium-high heat. Cook each chop for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. Once done, move them to a plate.
04 - In the same pan, throw in the sliced onions. Let them cook for around 10 minutes, stirring every now and then, until softened and sweet.
05 - Combine the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme (if using) in a bowl. Mix it all up.
06 - Spread half that mixture evenly in a baking dish. Lay the browned pork chops on top, and cover them with the rest of the mixture.
07 - Layer the caramelized onions on top of the chops. Sprinkle shredded cheese on it, followed by a layer of crispy French fried onions.
08 - Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
09 - Take off the foil and leave it in the oven for another 10–15 minutes until the top is crunchy and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
10 - Let the dish cool for a few minutes after taking it out of the oven, then serve while it’s warm.

# Notes:

01 - For softer onions, cook them low and slow. Add a bit of water or broth if they stick.
02 - Chicken thighs or turkey cutlets can take the place of pork chops. Just adjust the cooking time.
03 - Swap out the cream of mushroom soup. Make your own with 1 cup of milk, 2 tbsp of flour, and browned mushrooms.
04 - Leftovers keep well in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 3 days.
05 - You can pre-assemble this dish (up to step 6) and chill it for up to 24 hours. If cold, just add 10–15 minutes to the oven time.
