Slow Cooker French Onion Meatballs (Print Format)

Meatballs, caramelized onions, and Gruyere meld in a savory slow-cooked dish, perfect for cozy family meals or gatherings.

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 26 oz bag frozen beef meatballs
02 - 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
03 - 2 cans (10.5 oz each) condensed French onion soup
04 - 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

# Steps:

01 - Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker.
02 - Place frozen meatballs and thinly sliced onion in the slow cooker. Pour over the condensed French onion soup and gently stir to combine.
03 - Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours or on HIGH for 1-2 hours.
04 - Sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese over the meatballs 15-30 minutes before the end of cooking. Cover until the cheese is melted.
05 - Enjoy hot over mashed potatoes, toasted French bread slices, or rice.

# Tips:

01 - Turkey or chicken meatballs can be used as a lighter alternative to beef. Provolone cheese can substitute Gruyere if needed. For an added depth of flavor, consider adding a splash of sherry or white wine.
02 - This dish can be prepared up to the point of adding cheese and stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Reheat in the slow cooker and add cheese before serving.
03 - Freeze in a suitable container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
04 - Serving over mashed potatoes, rice, or alongside toasted French bread can turn this dish into a hearty meal.
