Boil spaghetti in salted water until al dente. Reserve 1/4 cup pasta water.

Heat oil in a pan. Add shrimp, season with a pinch of salt and paprika. Cook 1–2 minutes per side until pink. Remove and set aside.

In the same pan, add garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Season with black pepper, paprika, salt, and sugar if needed. Add a splash of pasta water and simmer until sauce thickens.

Add cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. Stir in butter if using. Return shrimp to the pan and mix gently.

Plate hot and finish with extra black pepper.
